Q: I want to give our bedroom a fresh new look this winter. We’d like to add new colors and textures. Where should I look?

A: We’re fortunate to have a varied selection of shops that are inspiring sources for bedroom decor. Anichini recently opened in Manchester and features elegant colors and luxurious textures. Next door, Yves Delorme~Palais Royal has classic and elegant bed linens for a contemporary look. Versace’s bed linens in regal colors will add a distinctive look at sizable savings. Susan Sargent Home recently opened a new flagship store on Route 7A and offers vibrant colors and creative designs in bedding, pillows, and area rugs. Union Street Mercantile has bed linens that are perfect for our country lifestyle. You have several top places to shop at!

Q: We just bought a second home and need bedroom furniture. Where do we look?

A: Vermont Made Furniture has ready-made pieces and will also custom design to your specifications. Bennington Furniture has classic pieces and complete bedroom sets. And Decorative Interiors is available for interior decorating if you would like the assistance of a professional decorator for a room or a whole-house project.

Q: I’m new to the area and am hosting an elegant dress-up Christmas Eve party. Where can I find holiday attire without traveling too far?

A: The Clift Collection across from the Equinox Hotel has separates specially selected for the holidays. The fabrics and colors are stunning, so we suggest you stop by.

Q: Dressing up my table for Thanksgiving always seems like a chore. Who has tabletop pieces that will make the table beautiful and make it easy for me?

A: Visit Now & Forever, The Drawing Room, and Quiet Horizons. They have centerpieces for Thanksgiving and Christmas too.

Q: I know I need help in pulling my dining room together but don’t want a decorator look that isn’t my taste. How do I solve this dilemma?

A: Rose Ann Humphrey’s French Country Home Store offers interior design with a French flair that ends up looking just right without it being someone else’s taste.

Q: In setting our holiday tables, we want to have a fun one for the children. What can you suggest?

A: To keep kids entertained and busy, set up a game table. Visit the Old Game Store in Sunderland for a terrific selection of games and puzzles for all ages; adults too! Sports ‘n Tyme and Northshire Bookstore have a variety of delightful books and activities to keep kids happily entertained.

Q: We have a set of dishes I adore but it has missing pieces. Is there any place locally that can search out replacement pieces for us?

A: Vermont Kitchen Supply will research–and often locate–anything for the kitchen. This new shop is stocked to the hilt with everything for the kitchen.

Q: In thinking about gifts for coworkers, I’d like something special and affordable? Any suggestions?

A: Silverado is a new jewelry shop on Route 7A that has unique pieces, many with colored stones. There’s a large selection of neck pendants, bracelets, and earrings; you’re sure to enjoy the choices. Long Ago & Far Away has an excellent selection of Native American jewelry and Hawkins House Craftmarket in Bennington has a virtual jewelry gallery.

Q: The walls of our home just got a fresh coat of paint. Now we’re looking for prints that are moderately priced. Where do we look?

A: Vermont Presence has a great variety of framed and matted prints. All you’ll need is a nail and a hammer. The Norman Rockwell Museum in Arlington has prints for matting and framing that will be classics for years to come.

Q: Our entry is quite large and I’d like to have a table specially made to fit in one corner? Who does fine custom work?

A: Dan Mosheim and William Laberge are both outstanding custom craftsmen. Visit their workshops and discuss your exact needs. If you need special lighting to highlight the new table, visit Brooke Grove Lighting in Dorset.

Q: We want to make some changes to the front of our house and give it a bit of a new look, nothing major but something friendly and distinctive. Any ideas?

A: We’d suggest a visit to the Wooden Rooster Carved Signs for either a specially made name sign or an address sign. Their work is artistic and professional and a Wooden Rooster sign will add a touch of class to any home entry. Adding a bird feeder will add a friendly touch–and the birds will appreciate it. Visit The Bird Place for a great selection and a lot of knowledge from the staff.

Q: Where should I look for some lovely Christmas decorations for our new home?

A: Christmas Days in Sunderland has a huge collection of collectibles, ornaments, and festive decorations and their holiday ribbon selection is outstanding. Magic Sleigh in Manchester is packed with a great array of Christmas adornments.

Q: Any suggestions for fun gifts I can ship?

A: Chocolates and holiday treats are always well received. Visit Mother Myrick’s in Manchester and The Chocolate Barn in Shaftsbury. Pick your favorites and they’ll pack and ship all your orders.

Q: My sports-loving family will spend a week with us for the holidays. Where do I send them for clothing and gear?

A: Eiger-Bike.Board.Skate has snowboards and everything else for winter sports. Manchester Sports has the outerwear and Manchester Footwear is packed with hiking and snow boots to get everyone outfitted. For women golfers headed south, visit the Women’s Golf Catalog to arrive with everything for a great game of golf.

Q: We’re celebrating the birth of our first child and I would like to get my wife a special piece of jewelry to commemorate this special event. Who do you suggest?

A: Drew Ann Dunigan Jewelry Studio in Dorset handcrafts her own pieces in sterling silver and 18-karat gold. Harris Goldsmiths creates beautiful pieces with exotic stones and diamonds in gold, silver, and platinum settings. And Nina offers rings set with emeralds, rubies, and sapphires to complement diamonds.
