With the change of seasons soon approaching, our lives switch gears and we are onto a new routine. As the summer winds down, one of the most popular comments I heard was, "Wow, Manchester has so much going on!" This was music to my ears as word has really spread about our extraordinary culturally-enriched community. Thousands of visitors–and locals too!–took advantage of the variety of entertainment and enjoyed the broad selection of art, theater, music, dining, sports, recreation, and shopping! I know there’s a full slate of events planned that will take us through the fall and holiday season. Why not plan now to treat yourself to a long getaway weekend. Rooms are scarce in peak season; we encourage you to make your foliage reservations now. We offer a unique selection of lodging choices to choose from.

We’re celebrating the change of seasons with a playful and colorful cover featuring Susan Sargent Home. Renowned for her creative designs, bright colored rugs, and home accessories, Susan Sargent recently launched new lines of furniture, bedding, and wall coverings. While our intention for this cover photo was to feature a sample piece of furniture from the new collection, the kids decided to take it in another direction. Beneath the stack of pillows–and kids–is a brightly-colored chaise lounge that is as comfortable as it is beautiful. Please stop in to see the exciting new extension of Susan’s designs!

The five-week Vermont Summer Festival Horse Show, held at the nearby 400-acre Beebe Farm in East Dorset, ended August 11th. The prestigious equine competition is New England’s largest AA rated hunter/jumper horse show. We’ve put together a photo journal in this issue to capture the essence of the competition. See pages 12-13. We look forward to this event returning next summer!

Orvis held their official Grand Opening August 23rd-25th at their new flagship store in Manchester. The store is not only an architectural wonder, it’s beautiful and fun for the whole family–Rover included! One of the signature pieces that’s a true showstopper is the impressive stained-glass window facing Route 7A. A huge nine-foot trout is the featured focal point in the window which was designed by two local and very talented designers, Laine and Yoshi Akiyama of Our House Design Studio. Johnny Hinrichs, a local master stained-glass craftsman was commissioned to create the window and bring the Akiyama’s design to life. We feel so proud to have such extraordinary talent right here in our own community. Our hats off to everyone who had a role in Orvis’ successful grand opening. It was a true collaboration of many talented people!
